Vestry

As you know, three individuals in our parish really stepped up their volunteering at the Thrift Shop after our paid manager couldn’t work anymore. The Thrift Shop Board presented a proposal to the vestry that offloads some administrative tasks from our key volunteer leaders. The vestry approved their proposal unanimously. We’re thankful for the leadership that our volunteers continue to provide at the Thrift Shop. We couldn’t get by without them. Also, thanks to everyone that helped the Thrift Shop transition from offering winter gear to summer attire this past weekend. The leadership team did a great job organizing tasks so that everyone that came by was able to make a big dent.

Our vestry voted to resume meeting in person! After many months of Zoom-only meetings and a couple hybrid meetings, we’ll begin holding our meetings in person again starting this April. It’s a small step in the right direction.

A church in Mount Airy is looking for a building to hold their Sunday worship services. They asked if we would offer our space on Sunday afternoons. The vestry established a team to think through the impacts of sharing our building. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please share them with a vestry member as we consider the possibility. Several members of the vestry agreed to meet this Sunday to begin thinking this through.

Our diocese has a program where individual parishes can request that a deacon be assigned to their parish. Some of you may remember that Deacon Barbara Sears served with St. James’ a while back. The vestry considered requesting a deacon be assigned to St. James’ again, but decided to revisit this after Kristin returns from sabbatical. As we heard during Bishop Ihloff’s visit, the number of requests far exceeds the number of deacons available, so we’ll probably be waiting in a queue for a while.

We’ve always audited our Nursery School, Thrift Shop, and Church proper. The diocese is offering training in auditing standards so that audits are conducted consistently across all parishes in the diocese. Our treasurer, Natalie Del Regno, and vestry member Cheri McClanahan will participate in a diocesan training session on financial auditing.  Let Natalie know If you’re also interested in participating – the session will be held Saturday, April 23 via Zoom.
