A Sabbatical Prayer

Guide us, Lord, as we all journey through the months ahead together.
Help us to walk trustingly in faith with our parish family and to serve one another humbly.
May we always be aware of your presence and direction in all we do.
Be with Kristin+, Zachary, and Jasper and give them joy and contentment as they travel, and return them safely to us. Amen.

Thanks For Your Support!

As always, you met a community need with overwhelming abundance!

Now is the time to remain committed to providing food for those in need.  As fall approaches, gardens will stop producing and people will rely heavily on pantry staples. Mt. Airy NET has an increased need right now for canned soups.

Our grocery cart is always present in the narthex, so don’t forget to drop off your extras!

We recently received the Mt. Airy NET Annual Report for 2021.  You can read about their move to the Mt. Airy Baptist Church as well as how your donations helped our community.

Also, you are invited to the Mt. Airy NET Annual Meeting to be held on Monday, September 12th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at their office located and the lower level of 1402 North Main Street. Meet the staff and volunteers of the Mt. Airy NET and get a recap of NET activities.  Please RSVP by calling 301-829-0472.

Worship Ministries

Ushering – I read this beautiful poem by Josephine Collett and thought it defines what we as ushers do.

This is where you will come to meet with Me.
I am everywhere, but if you come I will be waiting to meet you here.

You see only the surface of the people surrounding you.
They may have clear, smiling faces, but I know what is lying buried in their hearts

Listen for My voice in the midst of all the words,
Concentrate on Me. I will hear your tiniest whispered prayer
I know the love in your heart when you sing to Me.

I don’t care what you look like, or what you’re wearing or what kind of car you drive.
I have all the time in the world to care for you in the stillness.

Don’t concern yourself with who knows who and who is busy talking to who.
I am here for you and have brought you here for My purposes.
They may smile and shake your hand for a moment
But I want to take your hands and hold you to Me for a lifetime.

Don’t go away with the pain still inside you
I want to meet with you, and minister to you and heal your wounded heart.
Don’t go away until I go away with You.

See the sign outside? They made a mess of it with that complicated name,
when all it really needs to say is God’s church, welcome.

My church, you, and me,
Come in

DONATIONS FOR SILENT AUCTION REQUESTED

Donations of specialty items of higher value for our Silent Auction are being accepted with a deadline of August 28th.  Also, we will still accept items for the Basket Raffle.

Items for the Silent Auction would be those that would generate higher bids by themselves rather than as a part of a basket.  Such items could include paintings, quilts, unopened perfume, fine jewelry or high-value gift certificates, and the like.

All donations may be placed in the labeled large blue tub under the table in the narthex.  Please direct any questions to me at Ladyzip2004@yahoo.com or 301-788-0136.

Kristofer Roberson, Vicar at Living Grace Urbana, is a fourth-year seminarian at United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg.  Before becoming Vicar, Kristofer taught middle school visual and performing arts with FCPS.  Together with his wife, Kristin, an elementary visual art teacher, and daughter, Scarlett, the family resides in Smithsburg, Maryland.

Originally from Adamstown, Vicar Roberson is very familiar with Urbana.  For several generations, his family has called the area around Sugarloaf Mountain home.  Although much has changed, Kristofer still feels at home in southern Frederick and northern Montgomery counties.

Prior to seminary, Vicar Roberson served as organist and music director for several Frederick area churches. In his spare time, he enjoys country store shopping with his wife, building Legos with his daughter, and taking photos of God’s natural wonders, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens. #ravensflock

We are currently recruiting teachers for our Sunday School program which will begin in September.  The Bible Stories for Preschoolers is a fun opportunity to read a Bible story and do a coloring activity (provided) and to get to know our little ones.  The 3rd-5th grade class is also in need of a teacher.  This group, along with the rest of our classes, uses Living the Good News Curriculum.  A Leader’s Guide with lesson plans and suggested activities is available.  Both the Bible Story class and 3rd-5th class can be a shared teaching position.  For further information and questions, please contact Joan Fader (301-703-8787) or faderj1@juno.com.
