Stewardship Moment, October 6, 2019

Hi. I’m Jeannie Pellicier and today is the Kick-off to our month of Stewardship.  You should have received a packet and a paper star when you walked in this morning from the ushers.  If you did not, please see them after the service.

In your packet, there is a letter that asks the question, “How does St. James shine its light on you?”  I have attended St. James for a little over 20 years, so there are many things I can think of, but the most important one is that St. James gave me a place of faith to raise my kids.

We started coming to St. James when I was pregnant with my middle child and we just fell into a pattern of going to Sunday School and other activities for families.  You’re kind of joined at the hip when they are little; they go everywhere you go and you go everywhere they do so it just seemed very natural to do these activities together. I think I took this for granted because it was so easy.

But then your kids get older and as they become teenagers, they don’t want to spend time with you AT ALL.  But St. James gave me a chance to spend time with them and share activities.  I was the lucky parent who got to spend the night at the youth lock-in.  I also got to go to pool parties, pumpkin patch trips and watch my girls acolyte on Sundays.  Participating in these activities with them gave me a chance to see a completely different side of them I would never have seen.  I have some really good memories from my time with them at church.

Of course there were always the Sundays they did not want to come to church.  On those Sundays, I could go home and say, “Mr. Pfefferkorn was wondering where you were today” and “Mrs. Fader asked how you are.” They always knew there were people at St. James who loved them and wanted to see them every Sunday.  I now have 2 kids in college and they receive care packages and cards from the Outreach committee.  Even though they are not physically here, they know that St. James is STILL thinking about them and supporting them.

That brings me to the star that you received as you came in.  I would like for you to write how St. James shines its light on you.  My star says “St. James gave me a home to raise my children”.

I choose to pledge to St. James because I am so appreciative of all that St. James has done for my family and the support they have given my children.  Thank you.

We Want To Know
How does St. James’ shine its light on you?
Take time to fill out a star and add it to our bulletin board,
we hope to fill it up by the Fall Feast potluck on October 27!
