Vestry

The Vestry would like to thank everyone that came out for our Stewardship Drive-Thru or made a pledge prior to this.  As of today, we have 34 pledges.  If you did not have a chance to drive by on Sunday, do not despair!  You can still mail in your pledge, drop it in our mailbox or bring it into the office.  The drawing for the basket will be done live this Sunday at our 10:30 Zoom service.  Tune in to see if you’ve won!  We would also like to thank Bill Cunnane, Vivian Carden and Lynda Ellis for sharing their personal stories with us during our Stewardship moments.  It is not always easy to put into words why we pledge, but each of them beautifully summarized how their faith and generosity are intertwined.

St. James’ has qualified for a Potomac Edison program that will convert the rest of our building’s conventional lights to LED lights.  In the past, this program covered 70% of the upgrade costs; but due to COVID, 100% of the costs will be covered!   A big thank you to Ty Conlon for arranging this and seeing this through.  He estimates this could be saving us approximately $2000 in the cost of replacement bulbs.

Sunday Worship Information

The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland has suspended all indoor worship due to increasing COVID-19 numbers until at least December 4.  We will continue our online service via Zoom and Facebook at 10:30 am.

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop continues to receive a voluminous amount of donations from our community.   Some days we only need to curtail donations for a few hours before our volunteers have made more room in the shed.  Our employees and volunteers are working extremely hard sorting through all the donations.  We are now minus two employees and without the additional help of our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the amount of donations.  In addition to our five regular volunteers, we have an additional 10 new ones!  We are so grateful for their help!  The hours they volunteer range from two to 20 hours weekly.

Winter coats, gloves and hats are being placed on the racks as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas merchandise.  Every week we have at least three sales going to keep the merchandise moving.

Saturday, November 28 and December 5 from 11:00-3:00 we will be having our annual Secret Santa Shop.  We have been saving gifts year round specifically for this occasion.  It will be a little different this year because of the Covid guidelines.  We won’t be wrapping gifts but we will provide each customer a gift bag for each of their purchases.  Only 20 people will be allowed in the store at one time including staff and volunteers.  You may purchase a gift card at the shop for those who like to shop for bargains.

Thank you again to our volunteers!  We greatly appreciate you!
