Seasonal Shifts – Liturgy & Bulletins

Some of you remarked last Sunday on the change in liturgy for the season of Advent, as well as the format for our bulletin. The newly formed Liturgy Team met last month to plan ahead for Advent and Christmas, looking over potential Eucharistic Prayers and seasonal music selections. Going with the previously established pattern of changing these for each liturgical season (the long season after Pentecost being split into two sections), we decided that since we had been using Prayer A from the Book of Common Prayer we would move to Prayer 1 from Enriching Our Worship. I anticipate we’ll likely go back to a prayer from the BCP in Epiphany. As far as music, Len and I have primarily been working on selections, with some choir feedback. If this work is something that interests you please let me know!

As for our bulletins, for Advent, Christmas, and the season after Epiphany the Liturgy Team agreed it made the most sense to do stand alone, all-inclusive bulletins each week. We will make further plans for Lent and Easter in the new year. In working out a revised bulletin format I pulled together bulletins from seven or eight other churches to see what do. There is a lot of variety! I see this very much as a work in progress, so if you have questions, comments or suggestions please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Finally, there will be a coloring sheet in all Advent and Christmas bulletins, I invite you to be playful and grab a box of crayons and doodle during the service or take your bulletin home for some whimsy during your week.

In peace,
