Celebrating Black Astronomers

What a wonderful Stargazing Event with the Sutton Scholars last night! The amazing Astronomers (Laurie, Chris, and Al) from the Westminster Astronomical Society set up their telescopes outside and linked them to tablets indoors so that everyone could enjoy stargazing from within the warmth of the church. We are so grateful for their passion, generosity, and grace. Check out the photos! The scholars each presented the life and impact of a Black Astronomer and we all learned so much!! One of our Scholars even took home a free telescope (and a kindled interest in astronomy)!

Thank you Sutton Scholars for spending the evening with us!

Sutton Scholars is an Episcopal Diocese of Maryland high school enrichment program that empowers and nurtures Baltimore City students (grades 8-12) to become confident, competent and capable contributors to their communities by equipping them with life skills that are essential for academic, workplace, and personal success.  A significant portion of the program is a summer enrichment experience with trainings and projects.  In addition to that, scholars come together on a regular basis throughout the school year to participate in stimulating enrichment activities that contribute to their personal growth, expose them to new ideas, and expand their social and professional networks.
