Hello, fellow pilgrims. Last week I introduced you to our Camino’s second path: STORY. This week I will introduce you to the third path we will be walking together as a community: STEWARDSHIP.
A pilgrim is someone who is on a sacred or meaningful journey, and carries only what is needed. Sometimes, we can get bogged down by the illusion that we need so many extraneous things. But hallmarks of pilgrimage are simplicity, humility, and intention. As Christians, we are on a sacred pilgrimage to love and to serve Christ and one another. As pilgrims, we must faithfully discern how to love and serve Christ and one another. A significant part of this discernment is stewardship: of our gifts, of our resources, of creation, and of our faith and wellbeing. This is why stewardship is the central path on our camino. It is central to all that we do for Christ and one another.
Christ calls us to commit ourselves to:
- Trusting the journey rather than controlling it
- Living faithfully and intentionally (Matthew 6:21)
- Trusting God in our giving. (Malachi 3:10)
- Serving selflessly. (Galatians 5:13, Philippians 2:3)
How we steward our gifts and resources, this earth, and our faith should reflect the will and the love of Christ. As such, it might be helpful to ask ourselves:
What are we carrying that we need to release?
What has God entrusted to us for the good of others?
And remember:
Every pilgrim arrives by a different road, and we all converge at Christ.
You are Beautiful and you are Beloved.
