The Shell Newsletter – October 22, 2020

Vestry

Stewardship packets were mailed out earlier this week and I hope you’ve had a chance to read through yours.  Our Stewardship campaign, “Faith-Filled Generosity” begins this Sunday with a live speaker at our 8:30 service and a video at our 10:30 Zoom service.  I am looking forward to hearing these testimonials as they help me reflect on my own personal reasons for pledging.

Our Stewardship campaign will culminate on November 22 with a Drive-Thru Consecration from 12-2 pm.  We ask that you bring your pledge to the church at that time where Vestry members will be there to thank you.  The Basket Raffle Committee was generous enough to donate a beautiful basket to be given away that day as well.  We look forward to seeing you!

Sunday Worship Information

On Sunday, November 1, we will celebrate the feast known as All Saints’ Day.  On this day we will remember Saints known and unknown and all those who have gone before us.  You are invited to offer the names of your loved ones to be remembered in prayer.  Sunday, October 25 is the last day to submit names.

IN PERSON WORSHIP

We will gather at 8:30 am outside for Holy Eucharist in the Memorial Garden and field.  All attendees must abide by the provisions of the Covenant for Regathering, including:

  • wearing a mask
  • maintaining physical distancing from those not in your household
  • only attending when non-symptomatic for COVID-19 or any other transmittable disease
  • abstaining from attending if doing so would put you at greater risk because of your own health status

To attend outside worship please plan to bring your own chairs or blanket.  You will be asked to spread out in the field facing the building, keeping at least 8 feet between households – so consider hats or an umbrella for shade.  While this will be a service with Holy Communion (wafers only), you are free to choose if you feel comfortable receiving the sacrament.

If outside worship needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather a decision will be made by 4:00 pm the day before when possible, and if it needs to be cancelled, an email will be sent out.  In the case of unanticipated bad weather, including rain which would inhibit our ability to use sound amplification, an update will be posted to our Facebook page by 7:30 am the morning of.  You can check our Facebook page for updates.

TRANSITIONING TO INDOOR WORSHIP

We began worshipping in person outdoors at the start of July and now we’re ready to transition to indoor worship. Beginning on November 1st the 8:30 am Eucharist will move into the church building. The 10:30 am online service will continue on Zoom and Facebook.

Going back into the church building doesn’t mean a “return to normal.” Not only will the church itself look different, but we will continue COVID protocols to protect the health and safety of all.

Watch this brief video for an overview and sneak peek of the church

Reserve Your Seats

Based on Diocesan guidelines and the size of our sanctuary our max capacity for this service will be 40 people. This means that if you would like to attend the 8:30 am service you will need to sign up in advance. The link to sign up will be in the Shell Newsletter every week and on the website homepage about half way down.

NOTE: If you are assigned to serve as an usher, reader, or on altar guild you do NOT need to sign up for any date at which you are serving.

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop is in full swing for all your fall clothing needs for you and your family.  Many Halloween costumes and fall decorations are displayed in various areas of the store.  The store has received a great deal of material, yarn, cross stitch, and thread if you sew or are a quilter with more arriving next week.  The craft area is overflowing! Winter coats will be out soon so come out and take a look!

The shop has been absolutely inundated (yeah!) with great donations from our community. The shed is full to the brim every day and many donations are left outside the shed.  Thanks to the diligent hard work by our employees, we have only had to curtail donations for a day or so and sometimes only hours.  The public has been great about calling in to see if we are accepting donations.  We have been able to say we aren’t accepting them as this moment, but check back in a couple of hours and it has worked out very well.

We have some people from church who volunteer to help at the shop on a regular basis during Sandy’s absence.  This has been of TREMENDOUS value and help to all of us in many ways and everyone at the shop can’t say enough about how grateful we are.   We have a great time sorting all the treasures that are donated so come on out and see what you can find or come to help!
