From the Rector – Why Do We Do That? – How2charist

Whether you’re a lifelong Episcopalian or new to this branch of the church, you’ve probably had the stray thought (or active question!) about why we do some of the things we do during worship.  Or maybe your experience on Sundays is so ingrained that you don’t think about the why at all…

Either way, from time to time it’s important to learn and remember what we mean by the way we worship.  This is why I hope you’re join me on Sunday 2/2 at 11:45 am or on Tuesday 2/4 at 7:00 pm for one of the How2charist formation classes.

Using this digital instructed Eucharist, How2charist, we will watch four short segments of film that each focus on a different part of the liturgy, and then discuss not only what we’ve learned, but also reflect on what worship means to us individually.  Knowing more deepens our experience of the holy and brings us closer to God.

Please sign up in the narthex for How2charist this Sunday or email me to RSVP so I can plan space and hospitality needs accordingly.

Yours in God’s peace, Kristin+

Thrift Shop

Happy New Year: from all the staff and volunteers at Saint James’ Thrift Shop.

2020 has definitely brought new changes to the shop. Our new housewares room looks better than ever and our book corner is amazing.

In the process of revamping these two areas, more and more ideas surfaced to improve the shop. The shop is in the position to hold our Grand re-opening sale which will be January 30, 2020. The entire shop will be 50% off. So please come in and enjoy the savings as well as the new look.

I would like to thank all of our wonderful employees and volunteers for all the hard work they did revamping our retail space. So come in and take a look and tell me what you think.

The Thrift shop is always looking for volunteers, so come on in and join the fun.

As always Thrift with purpose

Sandy – Saint James’ Thrift Shop Manager

Notice of Annual Meeting   The 2020 St. James’ Episcopal Church Annual meeting will be Sunday, January 26, 2020.

This year we’re changing things up a bit on Annual Meeting Sunday.  The Annual Meeting is the one time a year the whole congregation gathers to do the “business” of our community.  We look back on the year that has been, review our budget for the coming year, and look ahead to the vision for the year to come.  For several years we have tried to squish the meeting between services to varying degrees of success.  This year we will have a combined worship service from 9:30-10:30 followed by the Annual Meeting including a brunch from 10:30-Noon.  There will be a pot luck style brunch and children’s program during the meeting time.

In addition to the usual business agenda Kristin+ will be teaching a College for Congregational Development Ministry Model and inviting everyone present to take a survey that will help the Vestry continue their work of renewal and revitalization through understanding St. James’ core identity.
