Vestry – Transforming Through Generosity

Autumn is the time nature prepares the earth for the new season, time for the trees and plantings to prepare for budding in the spring. As we turn the calendar to the month of October, we too must plan for the coming year by conducting our Annual St. James’ Stewardship Campaign.

This year the Stewardship Committee consists of Lynda Ellis, Maureen Suckling, Peter Sabonis, Chris Rosenker, Jane Barger, and Cheri McClanahan. We are excited and energized by our work and by this year’s theme, “Transforming Through Generosity”, which has multiple layers of meaning.

Just as nature transforms Autumn into the generosity of spring’s beauty, we too look toward our future year. “Transforming Through Generosity” can certainly change us, our community and our church. When we become financially generous, we can empower the ministry of St. James’ and transform the wider community.

In addition, we can define generosity as the way we live our lives and the way our church works in the community. While we are called to be generous financially, we are also called to be generous in the way we welcome newcomers, care for the planet, forgive those who have offended us, and care for our facilities.

This October please prayerfully consider giving generously to St. James’ as we work together to transform our church, our community and our lives.

Thank you,

The Stewardship Committee

Thrift Shop

This September we celebrated our 50th Anniversary. It is hard to believe we have been in business for 50 years! Here at St. James Thrift Shop we are so grateful for the continued patronage. Our community is so generous with their donations, it helps us  continue our mission and help others in need.

It is almost October and Halloween is around the corner. The shop has many costumes and decorations. Our shop is absolutely spooktacular. Come in and check it all out.

Fall is upon us! The store is also stocked with coats, jackets and hoodies. We also have boots of every kind cowboy, snow and work boots.

Last but not least we want to thank everyone that has been involved with Saint James Thrift Shop in the past 50 years!

Environmental Stewardship

Did you know Bishop Sutton is one of the speakers featured in a video supporting the Maryland Clean Energy Jobs Initiative?  This Maryland program seeks to:

  • Expand renewable energy in Maryland to 50% by 2030
  • Fund clean energy businesses owned by women and people of color
  • Create solar job training programs for Maryland Residents
  • Phase out incentives for trash incineration

If you go to www.cleanenergyjobs.org and scroll down a bit you will find the video and see what Bishop Sutton and others have to say about Maryland’s work on making our state more energy efficient.

These efforts are important in reducing the carbon dioxide and methane levels in the atmosphere – the prime drivers of climate change.
