The Shell Newsletter – September 6, 2018

Rector – Kick-Off Sunday

After a summer of worshipping together and taking rest, this Sunday we’ll return to two services (8:30 am & 10:30 am) and kick off the program year.  The highlight of Kick-Off Sunday will be our Ministry Fair at 9:30 am.

Come check out all the ministries we have at St. James’, to learn about the ways we care for one another and serve our wider community.  Every ministry will have a door prize raffle for those who stop by their display.  At the end of the ministry fair, winners will be drawn for each ministry – and then all tickets will be collected to enter the drawing for the grand prize!

We’ll also have back to school blessings this Sunday.  Students of all ages are invited to bring their backpacks to have them blessed and to receive a blessing button.  Teachers and all those who work in our schools will be invited to come forward and receive a special blessing.

You’ll notice changes to our liturgy this Sunday as well.  It is our custom to use different Eucharistic Prayers and service music seasonally.  For the long Season after Pentecost we break it into two blocks – one for the summer and one for the fall.  I’ll be writing more about our liturgical choices for the fall in The Shell next week.

Until then, I hope to see you this Sunday!

Yours in God’s peace,
Kristin+

2018 St. James’ Basket Raffle & Silent Auction

Our 12th Annual Basket Raffle & Silent Auction will begin at our Thrift Shop during the Oktoberfest to be held in downtown Mt. Airy on September 29th, two weeks before our larger annual raffle at the Lions’ Club Fall Fest on October 13th—two great opportunities for our fundraising!

This will mean we will need a group of helpers for each event.

Event Volunteers will be needed to assist with ticket sales before and during the Basket Raffle & Auction, to assist with transporting baskets between St. James’ Church and the Thrift Shop then the Carnival Grounds the day before the raffles, setting up tents and tables, as well as, calling winners of Baskets and Silent Auction items.

An online Volunteer Sign Up form is available at

Thank you so much to those who have already donated items as well as their time and talents!!
