In September 2015, The Rev. Kristin Krantz joined the St. James’ community as our 17th Rector. Kristin hails from Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a double major in History and Political Science, as well as Secondary Education Teaching Certification. She taught high school and middle school in Indiana and in Chicago prior to moving to Cambridge, MA to attend Episcopal Divinity School. She graduated from EDS with a Masters of Divinity with a focus on pastoral theology and was ordained to the Priesthood later that year. After seminary Kristin served as Associate Rector at All Souls Parish in Berkeley, CA from 2006 until 2014, and then as Interim Rector at Memorial Episcopal Church in Baltimore from 2014-2015. Kristin’s passions include ministry with children and families, spiritual formation for all ages, and our call as Christians to participate in God’s mission of justice, compassion, and reconciliation. In some circles she is known as a curator of pop-culture religious kitsch. Kristin and her sons Zachary and Jasper live in Mt. Airy.
Pat and her husband will celebrate 26 years of marriage this year and have resided in Mt. Airy for 16 years. She is the mother of two boys, one in high school and in college. She has an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development and Education from Northern Virginia Community College, a Bachelors Degree from UMBC in American Studies and Early Childhood Education, and a Masters Degree from Towson University in Early Childhood Education. She has worked as an early childhood program director for 19 years and has taught many classes at the college and university level. She has also taught numerous workshops and seminars. Pat has 30 years experience working in early childhood education. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Early Child Educators Association of Carroll County, on the Education Advisory Council and the Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Team for the Carroll County Public School System, and the Advisory Board for Frederick Community College. She is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She enjoys going cruising, reading, and watching her sons play sports and loves her two West Highland Terriers. This is her twelfth year as St. James’ Nursery School’s Executive Director.
Susan, born in D.C. and raised in Rockville, MD, moved to Mount Airy in 1978. She earned a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland and worked as an aide at St. James’ Nursery School. In charge of St. James’ Crib Nursery program since 1991, Susan also took on the position of Sexton in 2003. She currently is employed by the Frederick County School System as a Special Education Assistant and coaches the Unified Sports program for special education students. Susan has three grown sons and lives in New Market, MD.
Richard Drehoff Jr. is a composer, conductor, and keyboardist who champions interdisciplinary projects of the twenty-first century. With a keen interest in pioneering new ways to experience music, Richard directs several organizations dedicated to performing contemporary art music across the east coast. Prior to serving at St. James’ Episcopal Church, he served as the Music Director and Pianist at Damascus Congregational Christian Church in Chapel Hill, NC, while maintaining a piano studio of 35 students of all ages. While in NC, Richard also worked on the staff of the Marching Tar Heels of The University of North Carolina, from where Richard holds a Bachelor of Music with a second major in Mathematics. He is currently pursing a Master of Music in Composition at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, where he studies with Michael Hersch and serves as Graduate Assistant in the department of music theory.
