Statement from Bishop Sutton Regarding the Election of the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry as Presiding Bishop

Dear all Maryland Episcopalians,

bp-curry-bp-sutton

I join you in celebrating the election of Michael Curry as our next presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church. As you may know, Michael was rector of St. James-Lafayette Square, Baltimore from 1988 to 2000. Next, he was elected bishop in the Diocese of North Carolina.

Michael is a dear friend, truly someone whose spirituality runs deep, and a gifted preacher. He will lead our church through this next part of the 21st century with faith, hope and love.

Please pray for Michael, our presiding bishop-elect, in your congregations tomorrow and during Prayers of the People. Please pray for our continuing work here at the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City.

Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, Bishop of Maryland
