Grant Awarded...
We are
happy to announce that the St. James' Nursery School has
been awarded, for the third time, a grant through the
Target Store Corporation to support our yearly
"Cuddle-up and Target Reading Program". We would like
to thank the Target Store Corporation and particularly
the Frederick Target for supporting our school by
providing a generous grant to support this program for
the 2008-2009 school year. Each year we receive a
donation from the Mount Airy Kiwanis Club to help
purchase books for this program. The focus of this
project is to encourage parents to read to their
children daily and to excite children about books and
reading. For four months of this school year, children
will earn free books by reading with their parents each
month!
In June 2008 St. James' Nursery School was informed that
the school has been awarded a grant through the Maryland
State Department of Education (MSDE) entitled the "Judy
P. Hoyer Early Care and Education Enhancement Grant for
Private Providers of Early Care and Education Services."This grant is going to help fund our school in
the process of becoming accredited through the National
Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).We will be examining our program at every level
and making enhancements and improvements as necessary.We will begin working on this process this fall
and will at times need to call on parents to assist us
in this work. We encourage you to go

James' Nursery School, its staff and the children we
serve.
During the
second year of the grant, school year 2009-2010, we will
begin incorporating the Teaching Strategies: Creative
Curriculum into our program.This
curriculum is one of the five preschool curriculums that
have been approved by MSDE for use in Maryland
accredited preschools.The final
achievement of this two year process will be that St.
James' Nursery School will be an accredited school
through not only NAEYC, but the Maryland State
Department of Education.All of us
here at St. James' have a commitment to offering the
best preschool program possible and work diligently to
ensure that the children are being provided an
outstanding educational experience.
